Celebrations have taken place across Greece following the country's sensational 1-0 win over France in the Euro 2004 football tournament.

Thousands of people from all walks of life flooded on to the streets immediately after the final whistle was blown.

There were ecstatic scenes, as Greece reached the semi-finals to play Denmark or the Czech Republic.

No one had dared predict they would defeat France, the reigning European champions.

The main square in Athens was awash with flags - the German coach Otto Rehhagel who turned the Greek side around is now known as 'King Otto'.

Some fans let off fireworks and flares.
