The Woodchester Pavement replica could be about to find a permanent home at a Gloucestershire Abbey

The mosaic - made of more than one-and-a-half million pieces of stone - was created by brothers John and Bob Woodward

They were inspired after seeing the original pavement - the largest Roman mosaic north of the Alps

It is an exact copy of the real Woodchester - or Orpheus Pavement - which dates back to 325 AD

It depicts Orpheus charming all forms of life with his lyre and has been praised for its accuracy and beauty

The real Woodchester Pavement is buried beneath a churchyard near Stroud, Gloucestershire

It has been uncovered seven times since 1880, but is unlikely ever to be revealed again

Last time it was opened to the public, in 1973, it attracted more than 140,000 visitors

It is hoped the replica mosaic will be put on display in its entirety in the old pottery at Prinknash Abbey
