Israeli magician attempts ice cube endurance record

An Israeli magician has begun his attempt to break the world record for staying inside an ice cube.

If successful, Hezi Din will emerge from the eight-tonne ice cube on midnight on New Year's Eve.

Din plans to beat David Blaine's record of 58 hours, set in New York in 2000, by six hours.

Crowds have gathered in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv to watch the feat.
