Iran's presidential challenger, Mir Hossein Mousavi, has urged followers to observe a day of mourning for those killed in this week's protests.
He asked them to stage peaceful demonstrations in mosques and other public places.
Heavy restrictions have been placed on the BBC and other foreign news organisations with reporters banned from covering unauthorised gatherings, but there are no controls on what they can write or say.
