Dobson's waiting list targets

The English health regions have been set tough targets for reducing waiting lists. On the day it was announced a record 1.29 million people are now waiting for operations, the Health Secretary Frank Dobson challenged the health authorities to help Labour meet its election pledges. Each of the eight regions have been allocated extra money to bring down waiting lists:

England as a whole

  • March 97 waiting list - 1.13 million people
  • March 98 list - 1.27 million
  • March 99 target - 1.10 million
  • extra cash - 65m

By region:

Northern and Yorkshire

  • March 97 list - 137,711
  • March 98 list - 149,053
  • March 99 target - 135,007
  • extra cash - 8.5m

Trent

  • March 97 list - 123,719
