France's health ministry says more than one in six French people are obese.

That is less than in many other countries but President Nicolas Sarkozy is worried enough to be planning a major new campaign against obesity in the New Year.

David Chazan reports from Paris on how doctors have devised a characteristically Gallic treatment for obesity.
