'I nearly died twice'
Rodney Ledward
Rodney Ledward has been struck off
Valerie Cant suffered serious complications after she underwent surgery carried out by disgraced gynaecologist Rodney Ledward. She told the BBC's Today programme of her suffering.

"I nearly died twice because of his incompetence and for a long time - in fact for 18 years - I thought it was a pure accident.

"It was not until 1998 that I realised what he had actually done to me.

"I had a hysterectomy in July 1980 and he punctured my uterus, and I had renal failure the next day.

"On the third day he operated again, and he was not qualified, it should have been a urologist not a gynaecologist.

"He tried to sew the two tubes back on and in doing so he punctured my bladder. Consequently, I lost the next ten days completely.

"I was in hospital for three weeks, and then they said I was on the mend so they let me come home in the August for my nephew's wedding.

"That was on the Saturday, on the Thursday I was rushed back in and I had septicaemia.

"I was in hospital nearly three-and-a-half months altogether.

"Then I went into hospital again 15 months later and had an operation on my kidneys, and a fantastic surgeon saved my kidneys for me."
