The WHO is campaigning to reduce the numbers of women and babies who die during pregnancy and childbirth.

It warns children's risk of dying in their first seven days is higher than at any other time during the first five years of their lives.

And it says that each year, half a million women die in pregnancy and four million newborns do not survive more than a month.

Around the world severe infection, premature birth and a lack of oxygen around birth are the leading causes of newborn deaths.
