Organ scandal doctor wife probed

The General Medical Council is investigating the doctor wife of the pathologist at the centre of the Alder Hey Hospital organ scandal.

Dr Lynne Ball is married to Professor Dick Van Velzen who was banned from practising in the UK.

He was accused of stockpiling the organs of more than 800 babies at the Merseyside children's hospital.

The GMC refused to reveal details of the allegations against Dr Ball.

She met Prof Van Velzen when they worked together at Alder Hey in Liverpoolin the mid-1990s.

The couple moved to Holland following the scandal.

A spokeswoman for the GMC confirmed today that Dr Ball was under investigation.

She said "We are aware there are some concerns about this doctor and can confirm we are investigating.

"The doctor currently has full registration and no restrictions on practising."
