12-ounce baby goes home
Kallie Rogers has confounded medical opinion
A 12oz (340g) baby given only hours to live by doctors has confounded medical opinion and left hospital with her parents.
Kallie had to be delivered by Caesarian section because she had stopped growing in her mother's womb. Her chances of survival were also lessened by the fact that her mother had undergone a kidney transplant operation some years earlier.
At ten months she is still only the size and weight of the average new born.
"If she is going to survive is going to be because she has the strength to survive."
Kallie's mother Sheila Westlake said: "I never thought we would have this chance, but we have, and I am absolutely thrilled."
Kallie is still on medication for a weak liver, but it is hoped she will grow up to lead a normal life.
