Baby deaths prompt investigation
![]() The Children's Hospital Trust conducted investigations
An investigation has been launched into the deaths of three babies within nine months at a leading children's hospital.
Lucy Wolfe, of Nuneaton, Warwickshire, was just days old when she died at the Diana Princess of Wales Children's Hospital, Birmingham. Eve Freer, aged six weeks, from Wolverhampton, died at the hospital in December, and one-year-old Joseph Calvert, of Stoke-on-Trent, in March. All three had been treated for heart problems.
On Saturday, a spokeswoman for the hospital, which has featured in the BBC's Children's Hospital programme, refused to comment on reports that two senior consultants had been suspended as part of the investigations. She said the Birmingham Children Hospital's NHS Trust had conducted "thorough investigations" and been asked to provide the coroner with reports into the "three unrelated cases". The spokeswoman added: "We would like to express again our sincere sympathies to the families." |
