On May 22 the people of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland voted on the following questions. Counting began on the morning of Saturday May 23 and the Northern Ireland result was declared shortly after 15.00 BST. The Republic of Ireland result was declared shortly after 18.00 BST

Result declared from King's Hall, Belfast
"Do you support the agreement reached at the multi-party talks on Northern Ireland and set out in command paper 3883?"

Yes 676,966 71.12%
 
No 274,879 28.88%
 
Turnout 951,845 80.98%
 


 Republic of Ireland

Result declared from Dublin Castle
"Do you approve of the proposal to amend the Constitution contained in the 19th Amendment of the Constitution Act 1998?"

Yes 1,442,583 94.39%
 
No 85,748 5.61%
 
Turnout 1,528,331 55.59%
