Refuge given Christmas presents

Children spending Christmas at Jersey Women's Refuge (JWR) have been given £1,000 of toys and gifts.

The Jersey branch of Care and Relief for the Young (Cry) said it was the first time it had used money from its Christmas appeal locally.

Jane Allchin, from the charity, said Cry usually worked with disadvantaged children overseas, but this year wanted to address problems in Jersey.

About 25 children are living at JWR, which helps victims of domestic abuse.
