Teaching staff jobs will be lost

The cuts will affect a third of teaching assistants at the school

Five teaching assistants have been told they will lose their jobs due to changes in a Jersey secondary school's budget for next year.

The staff at Haute Vallee School are currently employed on temporary contracts.

Four of the assistants will be leaving the school; another is staying on to retrain as a teacher.

Head Teacher Bob Fairhurst says the job losses are because of a reduction in pupil numbers at the school.

He said it was his duty to balance the books so the school does not get into debt.

All the staff affected have been given extended notice so they can find other jobs, said Mr Fairhurst.
