Fishermen fined for illegal trawl

A Jersey fisherman has been fined £14,000 for repeatedly trawling illegally in UK waters.

Michael Michieli, 49, from Rozel was caught fishing off the coast of Sussex by a police helicopter camera.

He and 61-year-old David Waldron from Lowestoft in Suffolk, pleaded guilty to eight offences of trawling within the three-mile (5km) fisheries limits.

Michieli and Waldron were both fined £14,000 at Chichester Magistrates' Court and ordered to pay costs.
