Vehicle found hanging off track

Vehicle in precarious position
Ropes were used to make the vehicle safe

A vehicle with a man and two dogs stuck inside ended up balanced "precariously" between a track and a road when it slid sideways in heavy rain in Jersey.

The driver had been reversing down the track from a field when the surface gave away, according to the island's fire and rescue service.

It happened on Tuesday at 1530 GMT, on Les Charrieres Malorey in St Lawrence.

The fire service said the man, who waited inside until they had secured the vehicle, had a "lucky escape".

The Police and Ambulance service were also called to the scene, near the Jersey War Tunnels.

The 4x4 was anchored with ropes to make it safe for the man to get out.

Mark Masterman, the watch manager, said: "We would urge all road users to be very mindful of the current road conditions caused by the recent heavy rainfall.

"Many countryside banks may have become waterlogged enough to cause displacement of the soil and rock, and debris washed onto roads can cause a real hazard - especially to two wheeled road users."

No one was injured in the incident.
