A Jersey woman who was killed by a landslide on a beach in Tenerife has been described as "loyal, respected and popular".

Marion O'Hara, 57, had gone on holiday to the Spanish island and was on a small beach when rocks came loose from cliffs at the resort of Los Gigantes.

Jersey Police confirmed Ms O'Hara had lived in the parish of St Martin.

She had worked for HSBC for 25 years, and in a statement the company said: "We have all been terribly shocked."

'Devastated us all'

The collapse of a 130ft (40m) stretch of cliff happened shortly after 1600 local time (1600 GMT) at a small beach at Playa de los Gigantes on Sunday.

Piles of rubble were described as being up to 5m deep.

Dave Hellen, HSBC regional director for the Channel Islands, said: "Marion only left Jersey on Saturday for a holiday in Tenerife and the news of what has happened has devastated us all.

"Marion was a loyal, respected and popular member of the team.

"All her friends and colleagues are thinking about her at this sad time. I would like to offer our sincere condolences to her son, Daniel, and all her family during these difficult times."
