Family Focus: Mend and make do

Healing heels

As the recession continues more of us are opting to repair and remodel our clothes and shoes which has led to increased business for tailors and cobblers.

This week Family Focus looks at how we can make extra savings by choosing to repair and remodel our clothes and shoes rather than incur the expense of new purchases.

Sarah Travers visits a tailor and a cobbler who are benefiting from our increasing willingness to mend and make do as the recession continues.

Lucy Smith, who owns a clothing alterations shop in Newcastle, has launched a restyling business to help people give their old clothes a facelift.

In Portrush, 22-year old Jack Farthing is learning his trade as a cobbler from his 72-year old grandad who, until his retirement a few years ago, worked in shoe repair all his life.
