Julian Fowler- reporter in the west

Julian began his BBC career in local radio in York and Leeds in 1996. He arrived in Belfast in 1998 for two weeks to write ceefax pages and has never looked back.

Julian became BBC Newsline's reporter in the West in 2005 covering news stories in Fermanagh and parts of Tyrone. He films and edits his own reports and sends them back to Broadcasting House in Belfast via the internet.

In the summer of 2009 Julian embarked on the adventure of a lifetime, sailing aboard the Europa tall ship in the trans-Atlantic challenge. Using the latest satellite broadband technology he broadcast live from the middle of the ocean and his reports from the top of the mast, 100 feet above the deck, were unmissable.

His emotional reaction to seeing Donegal after almost 3,000 nautical miles and 17 days at sea was something his colleagues won't let him forget!
