Telecoms firm seeks redundancies

Flags outside Jersey Telecom
Jersey Telecom employs more than 400 staff in the island

Jersey's biggest telecommunications company has offered staff voluntary redundancy to reduce costs.

Staff were told of the move after Jersey Telecom (JT) consulted with union representatives.

Bob Lawrence, chief Executive of JT Group Limited, said the move will mean the company can remain competitive.

Tim Langlois, of The GMB union, said he understood JT's rational given the current economic climate and would make sure staff received a fair package.

Staff have been told they have six weeks to apply for the scheme from Monday.

The company employs more than 400 staff in Jersey.
