June slump in visitors to island

Business visitors were down 22% and tourists from the UK dropped 13% in June, compared with the same period in 2008, according to Jersey Tourism.

Despite the favourable exchange rate there were also fewer visitors from France.

Jersey Tourism called the drop a "far from uplifting experience".

However there were more tourists from the other Channel Islands which may be because of people holidaying close to home in the current financial climate.
