Name-change celebrates twinning

A street in St Helier is to be renamed Rue de Funchal to celebrate the island's links with Madeira.

The Jersey town was twinned with the Madeiran capital, Funchal, earlier this year.

Parish assembly members voted 30-16 in favour of changing the name of James Street on Wednesday.

Officials are hopeful that the name-change will celebrate the contribution that the Madeiran community has made to the island.
