Fake Jersey banknotes are seized

States of Jersey 20 note
Forged 20 banknotes have been seized by the police

Fake £20 notes have been circulating in Jersey, police have said.

Three States of Jersey banknotes which were used in a St Helier pub were taken to one of the island's banks where it was confirmed they were forgeries.

The notes have been seized by Jersey Police and will now undergo forensic examination. They are said to be of poor quality.

Inspector Harry Carre said: "We get forged UK notes regularly but very rarely do we get Channel Island notes."

He added: "To me, it seemed obvious that they were forged.

"They're very poor quality and in good light you'd spot them immediately, although it might be difficult to tell in a dark place."
