People in Jersey will not face tighter restrictions when travelling to and from the UK. The UK government had wanted tighter border controls to reduce illegal immigration and cross-border crime. But the Home Office has now accepted an amendment which means people can continue to travel freely. "We shouldn't have to take a passport any more than someone from the Isle of Wight," Jersey's Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur said. "We're part of Britain. You may need to carry a passport for an airline, but that's a different matter. "The reason for doing it is a sensible one and Jersey supports that, but it was the way they were going about it which caused concern and cut across some of our constitutional privileges."
