Senator urges court to drop case

Stuart Syvret
Senator Syvret has been charged with publishing a confidential police report

A Jersey senator has asked for two charges relating to data protection laws to be dropped, calling them "wholly defective".

Stuart Syvret told magistrates that the charges, relating to the publication of a confidential police report on his web blog, did not specify which report.

Mr Syvret also denied driving without a valid licence and failing to notify officials he had changed his address.

The case against Mr Syvret was adjourned to 22 July.
