Island has 15 cases of swine flu

The number of confirmed cases of swine flu in Jersey has risen to 15 after three more positive results in a 24-hour period.

All the patients were on Tamiflu and recovering well, and all their contacts had been advised and given the drug as a precaution, health officials said.

The UK announced on Thursday that it could no longer contain its outbreaks.

But Jersey's Health Department said its objective was to contain the virus until vaccine arrived in the autumn.

Anyone with flu-like symptoms should ask for a home visit from their GP rather than visit their surgery.

Islanders seeking advice about swine flu have been advised to call a special helpline set up on 01534 445566 which is open from 0830 to 1730 BST, Monday to Friday.
