Events call to lure more tourists

Jersey needs more event-led tourism to increase the number of visitors, according to a local hotelier.

Robert Parker, from the Hotel de France, hosted one of the biggest boxing clashes ever staged on the island.

About 600 fans watched the IBF light-heavyweight eliminator in February.

Mr Parker thinks events such as that are good for Jersey, and might encourage people who would not otherwise visit to come to the island.

He said: "Selling TV rights to the boxing was better for promoting the island than buying short advertising space on national television."

Director of Jersey Tourism David de Carteret told BBC Jersey he thought the island had already done enough to promote event-led tourism.
