Accused 'repeatedly raped girl'

Claude Donnelly
Claude Donnelly faces a total of 16 charges of offences against the girl

A woman broke down in tears as she told a court in Jersey how a man repeatedly attacked her over a number of years.

Claude Donnelly, 69, admits two charges of indecent assault but denies nine of indecent assault, four of rape and one of procuring an act of gross indecency.

Steven Baker, prosecuting, told the Royal Court the assaults started in 1967 when the girl was eight and became more serious until she was 13 or 14.

The woman cried as she said the abuse progressed to repeated rapes.

Mr Donnelly is the first man to face trial in a historic child abuse investigation by Jersey Police.

The trial continues.
