M&S is reporting record sales day

Jersey branches of Marks and Spencer have reported a record day of pre-Christmas trading.

The company, which has five stores in the island, said it had a record day on 23 December.

On Wednesday M&S announced plans to cut nearly 800 jobs and close 25 of its smaller stores in the UK.

But the retailer said sales in Jersey had been better and despite "challenging" conditions there were no plans to close any island stores.

The M&S franchise in Jersey is run by Sandpiper CI.
