Additional measure to cut noise

New measures have been taken to reduce the noise around a steel fabrication works in Jersey.

Planning authorities were concerned about the level of noise from Jersey Steel, which is near 102 new homes at Goose Green Marsh in St Lawrence.

The developer has already built a bank about 5m (16ft) high to absorb most of the sound produced from the plant.

Now the States has agreed new measures including extra doors at the works, and fencing along the edge of the perquage.

The perquage is a path or road with direct access from the parish church to the sea.

According to ancient law, criminals could use the perquage to leave the island forever rather than face charges in the Royal Court.
