Cash help call for middle-earners

A Jersey politician wants more money to be given to middle-earners to help them cope with increased financial demands.

Senator-elect Sarah Ferguson says many pensioners and young families are struggling with the effect of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on rising costs.

The States had planned to provide £3.4m in GST bonuses and income support to aid lowest earners, compared with £2.4m in tax allowances for middle Jersey.

But Ms Ferguson says the total amount should be divided between the groups.
