Ex-solicitor general Vibert dies

Former Jersey Solicitor General and States representative Ralph Vibert OBE has died at the age of 97.

Mr Vibert, a founder member of law firm Viberts, was appointed Solicitor General in 1948, serving until 1955.

He also served as St Brelade's deputy after being elected in 1957, and was elected a senator in 1959. He became Father of the House in 1980.

His final role in the States before he retired in 1987 was president of the Finance and Economics Committee.

He was also a Commissioner of the Royal Court and had been president of the Legislation Committee.
