Football cap fetches £864 in sale

Muratti Vase cap: Pic Bonhams
The Muratti Vase is contested annually by Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney

A Muratti cap won by a Jersey football player more than 70 years ago has gone under the auctioneer's hammer.

Inaugurated in 1905, teams from Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney fiercely contest the annual battle for the Muratti Vase trophy.

The cap belonging to G H Carpenter sold at Bonhams' Jersey for £864. He played in the 1930, 1931 and 1933 finals - missing a penalty in his last year.

A cap won by Jersey captain Percy Kemp in 1920 sold two years ago for £470.
