Poppy appeal launches with parade

Jersey's annual poppy appeal has been officially launched with a parade and short service at the island's Cenotaph in St Helier.

The Royal British Legion said it hoped islanders will raise more than 100,000 for this year's appeal.

Fundraisers have already started carrying out house-to-house collections in aid of war veterans and serving service personnel.

There are about 5,000 former members of the Armed Forces in the island.
