Vomiting virus hits hospital ward

Hand washing
Scrupulous hand washing reduces the risk of the virus spreading

A ward at Jersey General Hospital has been closed to new admissions after an outbreak of Norovirus.

Six patients and three nursing staff on the Corbiere ward have been affected by the vomiting bug.

Deep cleaning has begun, which the hospital said would be carried out on a daily basis.

Islanders have been asked not to visit the hospital if they have symptoms, including diarrhoea with or without vomiting, stomach pain or fever.

People wanting to visit patients in the Corbiere ward will have to go through special safety procedures to prevent the spread of the virus.

The hospital said the most effective way to stop the virus spreading was thorough hand washing, using soap and water.
