Town Park site tested for toxins

Contractors are testing for toxic materials at a former gasworks which is to be the site of Jersey's proposed Millennium Town Park in St Helier.

People can expect disruption on the roads while workers drill in the Gas Place area over the next two weeks.

Contractors working for the Transport and Technical Services Department will be working behind screens at Gas Place and in the nearby Talman car parks.

There will also be some drilling on nearby roads and footpaths.

Tests on the soil on the site were carried out three years ago. Last year the States said it would spend at least 5m clearing the site.

It is hoped the entire park project will be completed by 2011.
