Jersey's Bailiff has paid tribute to Owen Wiscombe, who died on Sunday, describing him as "a tower of strength".

Mr Wiscombe was a driving force behind the Liberation Day and Remembrance Sunday Parades.

A former serviceman, he was also responsible for helping Channel Island current and former service people.

Sir Phillip Bailhache said he had a wonderful ability to relate easily to people from all walks of life.

Mr Wiscombe, who came to Jersey as an assistant prison governor, was well known for organising Liberation Day and Remembrance Sunday Parades.

He helped former and serving military personnel in the Channel Islands with pensions and other welfare payments and was also President of the Band of the Island of Jersey.

Mr Wiscombe, who died from cancer on Sunday at the age of 64, received an MBE two years ago for services to the community.
