People on income support should get help to pay a new tax on food says a Jersey politician.
Deputy John le Fondre said the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on food should not be scrapped next spring as proposed by the Council of Ministers.
Mr le Fondre said taking the tax off food would help wealthy people more than those on lower incomes.
And he said extra allowances for poor people would save the States about £300,000 a year in administration.
