Buildings 'need £16m of repairs'

More than £16m of urgent repairs are needed on government-owned buildings in Jersey over the next five years, the Property Holdings department has said.

The department looks after more than 520 properties and pieces of land.

But some are falling into disrepair and no money has been set aside in the States' 2009 Business Plan.

A survey of States-owned property is currently under way and Property Holdings said it was working on a strategy for carrying out repairs.

However, the department said the estimated sum of £16m could increase if problems which were currently not considered urgent deteriorated further.
