The funeral of the late BBC Jersey presenter John Uphoff has taken place in St Helier.

Friends, family, former colleagues and listeners gathered for a celebration of his life at the town's Methodist centre.

BBC Radio Jersey editor Denzil Dudley, breakfast presenter Roger Bara and assistant editor Matthew Price were among those paying tribute to him.

The 46-year-old died last week after a short illness.

Presenter's legacy

He had been suffering from meningitis, encephalitis and listerial blood poisoning.

Matthew Price said his death had left "a void in our lives, which will be difficult to fill".

Donations in the presenter's memory have been made to Greyhound Rescue, Headway Jersey and Jersey Hospice Care.

The John Uphoff Memorial Trust has also been started by friends and family, who wish to see his work continued.

One of its aims is to set up a radio bursary for people starting or continuing a career in broadcasting.

The trustees are John's widow Jan and friends Sara Durnford Lloyd, Christopher Lakeman, Matthew Price and Michael Preston.

It is hoped there will also be a John Uphoff Memorial Walk in the Royal Bay of Grouville later this year.

Mr Uphoff joined the station in 2002 to present the Saturday Show, taking on responsibility for the weekday morning show the following year.

He had been BBC Jersey's Breakfast presenter, alongside Roger Bara, for more than a year.
