E.coli prompts shellfish warning

Warning sign
Signs were posted warning people not to eat wild shellfish

E.coli has been found in the sea in the Grouville area of Jersey.

Signs have been posted warning people not to eat wild shellfish they find in the area near the golf course or they could get food poisoning.

Shellfish can act as a natural filter for bacteria so it can collect in them. The water will tested again this week.

The Environment Protection Department said it would not affect people bathing in the sea, but added they should wash their hands thoroughly before eating.
