Record rise in first aid awards

A record number of people in Jersey have been awarded first aid certificates, according to St John Ambulance.

The charity has issued nearly 2,000 certificates so far this year - 150 more than for the same period in 2007.

Nigel Truscott from St John Ambulance Service said the charity was pleased with the rising numbers.

He said there was no substitute for learning first aid and called for even more islanders to take a course.
