Young people from Jersey have raised £80,000 to fund their travel to Australia for a conference.

The members of Jersey's Catholic church are representing the island at World Youth Day, which is being led by Pope Benedict XVI.

World Youth Day aims to bring together young people from around the world to celebrate their faith.

A group of 41 young people from Jersey are travelling to Sydney to the event which starts on Tuesday 15 July.

They collected the £80,000 through fetes and other fund raising activities.
