Killer's sentence upheld by judge

Mrs Justice Rafferty upheld the minimum 20-year term sentence

A High Court judge has ruled a Jersey man, who kicked another man to death, will have to serve the 20-year minimum sentence he was handed in 1999.

Rickie Tregaskis was sentenced for killing Michael Josay, 54, in Cornwall.

In 1999 his sentence was set by the Secretary of State, but changes under the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 mean Tregaskis is entitled to a review.

However, at the High Court in London Mrs Justice Rafferty decided to uphold the minimum 20-year sentence.

Tregaskis will remain in prison until at least 2019.

Back in June 2004, Tregaskis was also found guilty of carrying out a razor attack on Roy Whiting, the man who murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne.

Tregaskis was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the attack at Wakefield Prison on 4 August 2002.
