A controlled explosion has been carried out following the discovery of a suspicious package at a government building in Jersey.

Cyril le Marquand House in St Helier was evacuated and surrounding roads, including The Parade, were closed to traffic and pedestrians.

The building houses offices for the Chief Minister as well as a variety of States departments.

A man was arrested and taken to police headquarters for questioning.

People were allowed back into the building just before 1600 BST.
