Chimney repairs back on schedule

Crucial repair work has restarted on the chimney of an ageing rubbish incinerator in Jersey.

High winds at the weekend prevented steeplejacks carrying out repairs to the island's Bellozanne plant.

Rubbish is temporarily being stored at La Collette, until the incinerator is fully operational again.

The plant at Bellozanne was also closed on 9 May for four days, for the first time in 30 years. The planned closure followed an inspection in 2007.

The repairs took place in the waste reception bunker, where there were problems with a wall and crane beams.
