Fuel suppliers sold in £19m deal

A French oil and gas company has paid more than £19m for the Channel Islands subsidiary of Shell.

Fuel Supplies CI Ltd, which employs 105 people, has been one of the major fuel and energy suppliers in Guernsey and Jersey since 1955.

The move by Rubis will allow it enter the aviation fuel market.

Fuel Supplies CI Ltd, which had a turnover of £28m in 2007 and has 30% of the islands' fuel business, has told staff their jobs will be safe.
