A Jersey deputy says he is hoping senior politicians will back a call to make it compulsory to wear seatbelts in the back of cars.
Deputy Paul le Claire wants Jersey to adopt the same seatbelt laws as the UK.
He has asked the States to debate the issue after the island's Transport Minister said it should be left to personal choice.
But Deputy Le Claire says that following work by the charity Headway, the issue is being taken seriously.
Last week Transport Minister Guy de Faye said that whether to do so or not should be a matter of free choice.
It is currently a legal requirement to wear a seatbelt in the front of a car.
Headway will be holding a workshop during the lunchtime of the next States sitting on 12 February.
