Income tax incentive is offered
People on lower wages could pay less income tax next year if the States agrees to reject plans to exempt food from the goods and services tax (GST).

The treasury minister said lifting the tax on food and some other items would be complicated and could ultimately lead to the tax going up.

But Terry le Sueur promised if members rejected the proposals, he would amend income tax thresholds.

The minister said it was the fairest way to ensure everyone had fair deal.
