Jersey is employing a UK academic to lead a panel which monitors child protection services.
Professor June Thoburn is the new chairman of Jersey's child protection committee after Iris Le Feuvre was sacked in August.
Health Minister Ben Shenton said the £8,000 cost of hiring Professor Thoburn was money "well spent".
An independent review has started into child protection after concerns from former Health Minister Stuart Syvret.
It is being led by Andrew Williamson, the former chairman of Devon Social Services.
